Igor M. Ilinskiy’s investigations in the field of the sociology of youth have laid a basis for the school of thought in youth studies. This school is well known in Russia and abroad. He was the first who formulated the theoretical approaches and practical measures for the realization of a new conception of state youth policy, which was accepted as a basis of the most important national decisions concerning the problems of young people in the USSR of the Perestroika period, Russia and other CIS countries. He proposed a conception of the upbringing of viable generations. He was elected the vice president of the Research Committee on the Sociology of Youth 34 of the International Sociological Association (1989–1995).
Igor M. Ilinskiy’s recent investigations cover the development of the conception of higher education in the age of globalization and new risks for humankind as well as the conceptualization of non-governmental education as a social institute and elaboration of the conception of the culture of peace.
